LGBTQ+ affirming male therapists

Affirming therapy doesn't mean the therapist agrees with everything you do — it means your identity isn't the thing being worked on, unless you want it to be.

Reviewed by practising therapists

The therapists below are explicitly LGBTQ+ affirming. You can use your sessions for the actual work, not for educating the person opposite you.

What 'affirming' actually means

Affirming therapists take your identity as a given. They have a working understanding of the issues you might bring — coming out, family rejection, minority stress, dating, transition — and they don't pathologise being queer.

What to ask in a first call

  • Have you worked with LGBTQ+ men before?
  • How do you think about identity in the work?
  • Do you have experience with the specific thing I'm bringing?
