Frequently asked questions

Last updated: 14 September 2026

Therapy can feel like a step into the unknown, especially if it's your first time, or you're not sure it's right for you. This page answers the questions men ask us most often, about how Men's Therapy Hub works, how to find the right therapist and what to expect once you reach out.

Can't find what you're looking for? Contact us and one of our team will get back to you.

Getting started

We're a directory and resource hub built for men. Every therapist listed is a man registered with a recognised professional therapeutic body. Alongside the directory we publish honest, plain-English guides and put out a weekly podcast on men's mental health.
The directory lists male therapists for male clients, because that option is getting harder to find. That said, there's no barrier to anybody using the site. Everybody is welcome to read our resources and, if you're a wife, partner, or parent searching on behalf of a man in your life, you're in the right place.
No. You can browse profiles and contact any therapist directly. No GP referral, no waiting list, no middle step. Most therapists offer a free or low-cost intro call so get in touch with them and see how it feels talking to them before committing.
It's free for anyone looking for a therapist. You only pay your therapist directly for sessions. We don't take any commission and we don't sit between you and them.

Finding & choosing a therapist

Try our Get Shortlist service or use the Find a Therapist page to filter by what you're working on, how you want to meet, location, language and price. Read a couple of profiles that feel right and then reach out. The fit between you and your therapist matters more than any labels or training they might have.
That's completely normal. You don't need it figured out before you start. You can use our Get Shortlist tool to answer a few quick questions, or simply book an intro call and talk it through. Working out what's going on is part of the work you'll do with the right therapist.
Yes. Many therapists offer secure video or phone sessions, so you can get support wherever you are. You can filter for online, in-person, or a mix on the directory.
Your message goes directly to the therapist. They'll usually reply to arrange a short intro conversation. This is a chance for both of you to see whether it's a good fit before booking a first full session. There's no pressure to commit.

Our therapists

Yes. Every therapist holds a current license to practice in their state, or is in supervised practice toward one, which is clearly marked on their profile. A license means they've completed graduate training, passed the required exams, are bound by a code of ethics, and are answerable to a state licensing board. We verify licensure before a profile goes live.
A licensed therapist has completed a graduate degree in their field, logged supervised clinical hours, passed a state exam, and is accountable to a state licensing board that can discipline or revoke. Every state runs its own boards for psychologists, counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists. We check each therapist's license against the state board and confirm their National Provider Identifier (NPI) before their profile goes live.
There's no rule that a man has to see a male therapist, and plenty of men do their best work with women. Men are not better therapists because they're men. But for some men, having a man across from them makes the first few sessions easier, and the choice should exist. Right now it barely does: men are about a fifth of therapists and the share keeps falling. We exist to make them easier to find.

Privacy & your account

Yes. We're privacy-led by default: no public reviews, no rankings, and no resale of your data. Anything you save while browsing is just for you.
When you message a therapist, your details go to that therapist so they can reply. We don't sell or pass your data to advertisers or other third parties.
Tap the heart on any therapist profile, podcast episode or resource to keep it in your favorites. This is handy when you're comparing a few before reaching out.
