Male Relationship Counsellors
Relationship counselling isn't only for couples on the brink. A lot of the men we work with come because something feels off — distance, low-level resentment, the same fight on repeat — and they want to do their bit before it gets worse.
You can do this work as a couple or on your own. Both are valid, and both can shift things.
What you might bring
- Feeling like you can't say the right thing.
- Sex and intimacy that have quietly stalled.
- Conflict that escalates faster than you can keep up with.
- Drifting — busy lives, parallel rather than together.
Going on your own
Plenty of men do this work solo. You don't need your partner's buy-in to look at how you communicate, what you bring to conflict, and the patterns you might be repeating from earlier in life. Often, one person changing how they show up shifts the whole dynamic.

Gender Expectations, Masculinity and Emotional Suppression: Unlearning Outdated Beliefs
From a young age, many men are taught that being strong means being emotionally reserved. Messages like “man up,” “boys don’t cry,” and “be tough” reinforce the idea that vulnerability is a weakness. As a result, many men suppress their emotions, internalising distress rather than expressing it. While this may seem like a way to maintain control, emotional suppression can lead to long-term mental health struggles, strained relationships and even physical health issues.

For years, the dominant message in men’s mental health has been simple - “Men need to talk more.” While the intention is positive, it doesn’t fully address the deeper issue. Many men don’t know how to talk about their emotions or feel safe enough to do so.

Deep and lasting friendships are one of the biggest predictors of long-term happiness. But for a lot of men, they can become increasingly difficult to maintain as we get older.
