What I help with
About me
I’m James, I’m a therapist based in central Manchester. I know from personal experience how hard it can be to reach out for help—I’ve been on both sides of the therapy room. Before training as a therapist, I spent many years working as a lecturer and researcher. Alongside that, I spent a lot of time as a client myself, which gave me a real appreciation of the power of good therapy. I eventually chose to train in Transactional Analysis (TA), a therapeutic approach that focuses on how our early experiences shape the way we relate to ourselves and others today.
My approach with men
My core approach is to listen carefully to what you tell me, and work with you to build a deep understanding your world. I use my skills, knowledge and experience to help untangle the knots and problems that keep us stuck - talking about them is the first step to changing them. Above all I take an unconditional, non-judgemental perspective (we call this the 'I'm OK, you're OK' attitude in TA) to the material you bring, which is essential to understanding what's really going on - and to changing it.
How we get started
If you would like help, contact me to set up an initial free call. There is no obligation to work with me after this call. Instead, it is really a chance for me to get a sense of your situation. We can then work out whether I would be a good fit for you.
