What I help with

About me

Hi, I’m Ian, a counsellor based in Edinburgh.   I have over twenty years of experience working within in mental health and substance use services.  For the past three years I have provided counselling for people facing complex feelings and challenges, associated with bereavement, anxiety,  depression, suicidal thoughts, alcohol / drugs , relationship difficulties, hearing voices and life transitions.  My approach is collaborative, helping to foster self-awareness and personal growth.  My approach is open and straightforward. I'll work at a pace that feels right for you.

My approach with men

I have experience in providing therapy for men experiencing a range of issues including depression, anxiety, low self esteem, bereavement/grief, trauma, suicidal thoughts, domestic abuse, substance use, hearing voices, traumatic events and relationship difficulties. I recognise that these experiences can be complex and hard to unpick and can leave you feeling overwhelmed, and that you are shouldering difficulties on your own.   I believe that when we feel genuinely heard and understood, we can find greater clarity, self-awareness, and confidence in our ability to find our own way forward.

How we get started

I have availability on Thursday and Fridays. If you are interested in getting started please get in contact to arrange either a free consultation or initial appointment and we can get something in the diary. I'll be happy to hear from you.
