What I help with

About me

I’m Dr Mahmut Bektas, a counselling psychologist and CBT therapist-in-training working in London. I have been practising since 1999 in schools, the NHS/IAPT system and private practice. I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with the BPS and a member of the NCPS. I work mainly with men experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, migration stress and low self-esteem. My approach brings together CBT, EMDR and Transactional Analysis, always with a warm, down-to-earth style. I pay special attention to the pressures men face around identity, work, family and fatherhood,

My approach with men

I understand that many men feel pressure to cope alone, stay in control and just “get on with it”. I offer a calm, non-judgemental space where you don’t have to perform or be the strong one, and where we can explore how your thoughts, feelings and actions connect. Using CBT, EMDR and Transactional Analysis, I support and gently challenge men from all backgrounds to face pressures around work, family, migration, identity and relationships, and to take practical steps towards change.

How we get started

You can contact me through Men’s Therapy Hub and I will reply to arrange an initial 20–30 minute call or session. In this meeting we look at what is bringing you, what you hope will be different, and whether CBT or EMDR feels right for you. If we decide to continue, we agree a focus, a regular time
