What I help with
About me
I work with men navigating anxiety, relationships, work, and questions of identity and purpose. Many of the men I meet have gotten very good at carrying responsibility, solving problems, and pushing through, but have had fewer opportunities to ask for what they need. You don’t have to be in crisis or know exactly what to say to start therapy. My goal is to offer a space where you can be understood without having to prove anything, where we can get curious about the parts of your life that feel stuck.
My approach with men
Men often learn early that their worth comes from being capable, needed, or successful. That creates pressure, even when life looks good from the outside. Together, we’ll explore where those expectations came from, how they shape your relationships and sense of self, and what happens when you can’t fix or perform your way through something. I draw on attachment, psychodynamic, and existential approaches, and I’m an active participant: I’ll listen closely, offer reflections, and challenge old patterns with care. The goal isn’t to change who you are, but to give you more agency in how you live.
How we get started
We can start with a free 15-minute consultation to talk about what’s bringing you in and see whether we’re a good fit. You don’t need a clear agenda or the right words. Scheduler available on my website: gilmancounseling.com
